Client: Leading Manufacturing & Distribution Company Location: Ireland and the United Kingdom Solution: Warehouse Management System (WMS) Implementation Technology: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Microsoft Power Bi + MobileNAV (handheld integration) Industry: Manufacturing & DistributionProject Scope: Dual-site implementation (Ireland & UK)
Background
A major manufacturing and distribution company operating across Ireland and the UK was experiencing significant operational inefficiencies in their warehouses. Key warehouse processes—including picking, stock movements, and inventory control—were inefficient and inaccurate due to a lack of real time information, a dependency upon paper and pen and the use of Excel spreadsheets to manage certain warehouse process. This resulted in inconsistent data, manual errors, and poor visibility across teams.
The impact was felt beyond the warehouse: customers frequently received incomplete or late deliveries because the company was unable to accurately predict warehouse workload and capacity. These inefficiencies led to growing dissatisfaction, stock discrepancies, and missed revenue opportunities.
To address these challenges, the company partnered with us to implement a modern, integrated Warehouse Management System using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in combination with MobileNAV running on handheld devices.
Objectives
Implement an end-to-end WMS integrated with Business Central.
Replace manual spreadsheets and disconnected tools with a centralized ERP-based workflow.
Enable real-time warehouse operations through handheld mobile devices.
Improve inventory control, picking accuracy, and warehouse efficiency.
Enhance visibility of warehouse performance for management harnessing the Microsoft Business Central and Power Bi reporting.
Standardize and unify warehouse processes across both Irish and UK sites.
Our Approach
Assessment & Design: Conducted on-site process mapping across both locations to identify pain points. Designed a future-state WMS workflow leveraging Business Central’s standard WMS features.
MobileNAV Deployment: Implemented MobileNAV on rugged handheld scanners to digitize processes including receiving, picking, put-away, internal movements, and physical inventory.
Custom Interfaces: Tailored handheld menus and role centers for ease of use by warehouse operatives with minimal training requirements.
Power BI Integration: Developed real-time Power BI dashboards that surfaced key warehouse KPIs such as pick accuracy, volume, aging inventory, and operator productivity—enabling management to make data-driven decisions daily.
Training & Rollout: Delivered structured training sessions, developed SOPs, and managed a phased go-live to ensure user adoption and minimize business disruption.
Results & Benefits
30% improvement in picking accuracy40% increase in picking efficiency25% improvement in inventory accuracy10% reduction in year-end stock write-offsSignificantly improved on-time, in-full delivery performance
By digitizing warehouse operations and aligning them with Business Central, the client eliminated manual processes, improved customer service levels, and gained real-time operational visibility.
Conclusion
This project illustrates the transformational impact of moving from fragmented, spreadsheet-based warehouse operations to a fully integrated ERP-driven WMS. With Business Central at the core, MobileNAV enabling frontline efficiency, and Power BI delivering real-time management visibility, the client achieved measurable improvements in accuracy, speed, and service—paving the way for scalable, future-ready operations.
